The Functionality Of The Lenovo Touchpad In Modern Computing

Lenovo brand, and company, the well-known, in creating enterprise level and consumer-based notebook computers. And a major feature of Lenovo's hardware line, are their touch pad devices that sit within their notebook computers.

The Lenovo touchpad is much like any other notebook manufacturers hardware line of touch pads. However, it does have a few distinguishing features, that give it a slight advantage over other notebook manufacturer touch pads.

The most important part of the Lenovo touchpad hardware, is its proprietary software that sits alongside the hardware driver within the operating system. For example, an enterprise user of the Lenovo notebook, may find that the touchpad that they are using, comes with software that controls other features of the touchpad itself, for example gesture-based controls within the operating system. Not only is it advantageous to Lenovo touchpad uses, as it provides them with a more interactive and immersive user experience, but it also gives them the ability to customise their hardware navigation experience.

Lenovo touchpad technology is something that is being continually improved by the company. For example, in its most recent line of notebooks, Lenovo provides its users with proprietary software that allow extra gesture controls from within the operating system.

The gesture controls presented when using a Lenovo touchpad add to the overall user experience of using a notebook. Corporate users may find themselves looking through plenty of documents per day, and also scouring through webpages. Navigating through such documentation and information is easier with a desktop PC, due to its mouse functionality. However, gestures from Lenovo software give its users the ability to: zoom, scroll, and swipe, between documents and pages within the operating system.

Such gesture-based technology may seem like a great idea in concept, however, such software is not without its faults. Hardware manufacturers are generally better at providing hardware solutions to problems within the computer industry. It is therefore then at the operating system designers, to produce software accordingly. When hardware manufacturers, such as Lenovo, bundle software-counterpart controls to their hardware, some glitches and bugs may arise after continued use.

The main concern regarding Lenovo touchpad software control, is that it is difficult to sometimes navigate through webpages using 2 finger scrolling. As a result of contemporary interest in gesture-based technology, operating system designers are finding it far easier to collaborate with hardware manufacturers to produce software that will match the hardware requirements of consumers. Proprietary software is therefore not as needed, and can be replaced with well–tested operating system software.

The future of the Lenovo touchpad technology does not remain too unclear, however future releases of Microsoft's Windows operating systems (i.e. Windows 8) may shed some concern over the proprietary software bundles of Lenovo touchpad hardware. For example, Windows 8 does include a lot of gesture functionality that no longer requires manufacturer based software in order to take advantage of multitouch hardware connected to the operating system. Ultimately, with newer operating systems arising to meet hardware offerings, the user experience can only be expected to increase as a result.

To generalise on such a point, it may be clear to recognise that many hardware manufacturers of touchpad technology may no longer need to invest in developing counterpart software for the touchpad devices that they create.
